5 Tips to Start off the Semester Strong
Hi friends!
Not going to lie, adjusting to going back to school this semester has been difficult. I think since we finished last semester online, and then summer break, my brain has been on vacation mode for a while.
With that being said, I want to share some tips on how to start the semester off right.
Work Space is Key
A cluttered desk = cluttered mind. My junior year I bought a desk that is the smallest desk I’ve ever owned but since it is smaller, I have to keep it not cluttered because there isn’t any room for excess. Honestly, I have done my best studying at this desk because it is clutter free and when I sit down, I know it’s time to work.
Get To Know Your Professors.
On the first day of class, I can almost guarantee that your professors will not only introduce the course, but also themselves. Everytime I get to know my new professors, I always think, “Wow. This professor has a cool story and career path and I really should get to know them”. Even if you meet with your professors just to have them offer career advice, it is worth it. That has been one of my favorite parts of Baylor is that all the professors have such cool and unique stories on what lead them to Baylor. Not only should you get to know your professors just because they are cool people, but also meeting and talking with them shows that you care and they will take mental note of that.
Sticky Notes Available while you Study
This one is huge for me. In order for me to focus and be able to not let my mind wander, I have to have sticky notes next to me so I can do my best studying. It works as a brain dump for me because I know since I wrote it down, I don’t have to think about. Instead, I can focus on studying and then I can come back to my note later. These sticky notes are super random and will even sometimes include things that I need to tell my parents. This is one of the best life hacks ever.
Figure Out your Organization System and Stick to it!
I swear by my organization system and I would be a mess without it. Check out my last post for all my secrets :) But, I notice a lot of my friends start the year off by filling out their planner, and then eventually they stop using it. So find a system you like and stick to it. Even if your system is all digital, help yourself out and keep an organizational system so that due dates and important events don’t fall through the cracks.
Be Your Own Biggest Encourager
I know it seems crazy, but this one works. The semesters I write encouraging notes to myself and hang them around my room, the better I do when it comes to my GPA. It is crazy but just reading a note that you can do it, almost tricks your mind into believing you can do it. One of my favorite quotes of all time is from Wizard of Oz and it says, “ You’ve always had to power my dear, you just had to learn it for yourself”. You have to be your own biggest supporter and know that you can do it.
Hope these tips help!
Here’s to a great fall semester :) From one sappy senior.
