Why I Chose To Go to Baylor

Why I Chose To Go to Baylor

Why I chose to go to Baylor University:

As an out of state student, I get asked frequently, “why Baylor?” It is honestly one of my favorite questions because I love to talk about Baylor. It is always so funny when people are so curious why I left Colorado to come to Baylor.

So, as a senior who really does not want to graduate, I thought I would remind myself and others why I love Baylor. So here my list and reasoning as to why I decided to go to school in Baylor :)

1. Perfect size

I wanted the feel of a bigger southern school, but at the same time, I wanted to have a smaller classroom feel at the same time. Baylor was perfect in those regard as I walk around campus I can see someone I have never seen before, and then at the same time run into a close friend.

2. D1 sports

I grew up a Nebraska football fan, and we had season tickets. We went to a game every year and that instilled a deep love for sports. So, I knew I wanted to go to a school that had D1 sports. And like I said, I’m a die hard Nebraska fan. Since Baylor is in the Big12 and Nebraska in the Big 10, it worked perfectly.

3. Christian environment

I also wanted a school that was unapologetic about their faith. When I stepped onto campus, I knew Baylor was a Christian environment that I wanted to be a part of. Since Baylor is a Christian school, there were a ton of opportunities to connect to different churches and ministries involved with Baylor students.

4. Welcoming atmosphere

As I toured other schools in TX, I realized that there was something special about Baylor. It soon became clear to me that Baylor attracted only the best people. They were genuine people who wanted the best for you, and I could just tell that Baylor students and faculty were down to earth, good people.

5. Southern school

Growing up in Colorado, the South always had an drawing appeal to it. I looked at the Carolinas and other schools, but I had family in Texas so it just made sense to look in Texas. It still has the Southern appeals, but at the same time is still close to home.

6. I compared every other school to Baylor

As I kept touring other schools, it became evident where I was supposed to go when I would compare other schools to Baylor. I would say “well this is great, but at Baylor, they have this”. As soon as I realized that Baylor had become the standard to which I was comparing everything else to.

7. Felt like home when I stepped on campus

And finally, I knew that Baylor was the right place for me when I toured, finally stepped foot on campus and I felt an overwhelming sense of peace. Leaving home was scary, but I was so excited to start a new chapter of my life somewhere I knew I would be loved and accepted.

Throughout my four years, all of these reasons have reaffirmed my decision to come to Baylor and I can’t imagine going to school anywhere else.

Sic ‘Em Bears Forever.
