Junior Year of College Reflection
Junior Year at Baylor-
What a school year. Even though it was cut short, I am thankful for all the memories, lessons and friendships.
I was so excited for junior year to start. I loved my new house, and I finally got to experience the roommate situation I always wanted. The 4 of us would celebrate birthdays together, go to football games together and then have movie nights just the 4 of us. I am so thankful for these nights and all of the memories. I wouldn’t trade my junior year for anything.
This year presented challenges and ups and downs but I learned a lot.
I learned to love my independence and for first the first time in my college career, I would come home and long for my independence and being on my own.
I learned the importance of vulnerability in friendships. Even though it can be tough and not always end in a pretty way, honesty is so important.
I learned that not everyone likes cheesy words and saying on signs. This one was a shock to me. I just thought that everyone loved cheesy fall quotes.
I learned to love the journey of college and looking back at all the people who have touched my life. I truly believe that people come into your life for a reason, season or a lifetime.
I learned the power of networking and reaching out to people to get what you want in your career journey.
I learned how to live in the moment. As someone who plans MONTHS in advance, this time of quarantine and online school has taught me to enjoy the moment and take it day by day.
I learned that in all relationships, the other side has to meet you half way. It is not going to work if you are putting in all the effort for someone else.
I learned and was reminded that temporary things can be taken away in an instant.
I learned about myself and I would rather have an “oops” story than wondering “what if”.
I learned that it is okay to be proud of who you are. And accept that not everyone is going to like you. I love this quote from C.S. Lewis, “ Be weird. Be random. Be who you are. Because you never know who would love the person you hide”.
I learned that everyone is on their own timeline. Just because someone else is doing something at age 22, doesn’t mean that is what you need to do.
I am so grateful for Baylor and the people. I had the best junior year.
