ROME: best weekend ever

Rome:

What a weekend. This was our last weekend to travel. This was one of our fastest turn arounds of getting back from one trip and then leaving for the next. We got back from Barcelona on Sunday, and left for Rome on Wednesday night. We spent the night in Brussels by the airport, then flew to Rome at 7am on Thursday.

On Thursday, we experienced the reality of studying abroad. We finished our econ class, and had to submit our online final and we also were working on a marketing paper. So, we spent the whole day in our airbnb working on our paper.

Our airbnb was so cute… there are worse places to be stuck doing homework all day. I also was sick after traveling to Barcelona and this day I finally caught up on sleep… I took the best nap.

First REAL Italian meal. It was a cute family restaurant and the pizza was so good.

DAY ONE: We signed up for an 8 hour walking tour. We wanted to see all the sights and get in as much as possible.

This was when we saw the Coliseum and it was INCREDIBLE. It was so cool to see in person.

such a cool view from inside.

Views from inside the Coliseum.

Next stop: the Roman Forum. So cool.

TREVI FOUNTAIN: wow. just wow. I could have stayed here all day if it was’t crowded with tourists.

the Pantheon. Fun Fact: this whole in the roof moves throughout the day to highlight all the different Roman Gods inside.

Vatican City: another country!!! I wrote a paper on Vatican City in seventh grade and I loved seeing this in person. I totally geeked out.

Sistine Chapel: This was BREATHTAKING. We were not allowed to take pictures or videos inside but the story that this chapel tells is incredible. I am not a huge art person, but this was one of the best things to see. I remember learning about Michelangelo and I still am in awe of his work.

St. Peter’s Basilica: shoulders covered. Just another Roman building I am obsessed with.

fancy uber rides back to the airbnb

THE BEST MEAL OF MY LIFE. TONARELLO’S IN ROME IS THE BEST RESTAURANT EVER. I AM SO OBSESSED.

We walked an hour to get our food, and then waited to be seated but I would wait forever for this food.

DAY TWO: back to the Pantheon.

… and the Trevi foundation. gotta make some more wishes.

Spanish steps. The views from the steps… and this was quite the tourist trap.

MORE PASTA. handmade pasta for 4 euros… and I of course spilled on myself

one of my fav pics with madi girl :)

our walk to dinner…. obsessed

Dinner: we went back to Tonnarello. The best best best best food ever!!!! we walked an hour, and went to the same restaurant for the second night in a row.

dessert: tiramisu. An Italian classic.

cute little market by the river.

DAY THREE: We seriously debated taking a train to go to Procida island. But, traveling is exhausting, so we decided to spend our last day in Rome.

we ended up at Villa Borghese, and renting a bike to ride around the park

we stumbled upon the coolest view of Rome.

Gelato!!! finding peanut free gelato was actually so hard. so we found one place i could eat at.

cute streets from our walk home from dinner

back to Maastricht we go!!

I quickly fell in love with Rome and Italy. I want to go back and explore more of the country.

xoxo,
