Why I blog

Why I Blog:

One of my friends constantly tells me to “use my voice”. So here I am using my voice.

Back in 2009, when Bieber’s hair was all the rage, I started watching YouTube videos. I loved juicystar07, macbarbie07 and what’s in my purse videos. I never thought that my mom would let me start my own channel. So instead, I grabbed my mom’s laptop and recorded videos no one would ever see. I grabbed my Vera Bradley purse and filled it up with what I had seen everyone else have in their bags. I made my little sister be in the video with me and I made sure to include the line “this is actually what’s in my purse, I didn’t just throw stuff in here for the video.” And that was a complete lie.

My point is, I have been infatuated with the “influencer” industry for years. I have always wanted to give it a try but I have always come up with an excuse. “There are so many bloggers.” “They are all prettier than me”, “I will never make anything out of this”. And the list goes on. But, the beauty is that I am different than everyone else. We were all created to be different than each other. Sure I am another college student, but I am a little different than everyone else. And that is what makes me unique. I am me.

Recently I adopted the mentality, of asking my myself, “why not me?” And then when I was listening to the “Influencer” Podcast, and Kathleen Barnes shared her favorite piece of advice she has ever received. Someone told her, “The woods would be very silent if the only the birds that sang were the ones who sang best”. That really struck a chord with me. Maybe I am not cut out to blog, or maybe blogging isn’t what I thought it was. But I want to give it a chance. I will at least try. I love writing and photography and following other people online. I have decided to not let fear stop me. I am finally, 10 years later, putting myself out there.

xoxo,

Megan
